Case Filed in Madhya Pradesh: UPSC Hopeful Says Relative Forced Intimate Relations Under False Marriage Promise

A complaint has been lodged in Madhya Pradesh after a 21‑year‑old woman preparing for the UPSC exam accused a close relative of using a fabricated marriage promise to coerce her into a three‑year pattern of sexual exploitation.

The complainant, originally from Bhander in Datia district, moved to a rented room in Gwalior's Amkho area in 2023 to focus on her studies. She stated that Deepak, a family acquaintance who regularly visited her home, befriended her and later assured her of marriage.

According to her testimony, Deepak pressured her to stay in his personal room, asserting that a wedding was imminent. He escorted her to a temple, where they exchanged flower garlands and he applied sindoor, claiming marital status.

Following the sham ceremony, Deepak arranged a separate rented accommodation for the victim in Bhander and sustained physical intimacy. The victim later discovered that Deepak was already engaged to another girl from Karaara. When she raised objections, Deepak allegedly rescinded the marriage promise and threatened that the police would be ineffective.

The grievance was initially recorded at Bhander police station as a zero‑FIR and subsequently transferred to the Compu police station in Gwalior, where the case has been logged under applicable criminal sections.

Compu Police Officer Amar Singh Sikawar disclosed that the investigation includes verification of the alleged temple wedding, examination of CCTV recordings, inspection of the Bhander rented room, and collection of statements from acquaintances. Authorities are also probing Deepak's recent engagement.

Police continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses as the case proceeds.
