Madhya Pradesh imposes Section 163 curfew in Datiya ahead of assembly polls
Authorities in Datiya have placed the sub‑district under a curfew-like restriction by invoking Section 163 of the Indian Citizens Security Code, 2023. The measure, effective immediately, prohibits any assembly, march or public display without statutory permission as the region prepares for the upcoming legislative by‑election.
The order also bans the possession of weapons, sticks, swords, spears, knives or any other harmful items in public places. Online platforms are instructed not to spread provocative or inflammatory content. Enforcement will be coordinated with police, home guards, central security forces and designated administrative officials, while respecting the guidelines of the Election Commission and local noise and disturbance statutes.
