Lok Sabha Speaker and Cabinet Ministers Remember Hindi Literature’s Patriarch

New Delhi – September 9 marked the birth anniversary of Bharatendu Harishchandra, celebrated as the patriarch of modern Hindi literature. The occasion prompted a series of tributes from the nation’s top political leaders.

Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, posted a message that praised Harishchandra for steering Hindi language and literature toward modern consciousness, national dignity and social relevance.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari extended a humble salute, calling Harishchandra the “genesis of modern Hindi literature.”

Manohar Lal, a Union Minister, quoted a verse emphasizing the centrality of one’s mother tongue for all progress, and honoured Harishchandra’s unparalleled contribution to literary and national development.

Pankaj Chaudhary, Union Minister and Uttar Pradesh BJP president, highlighted Harishchandra’s role in the Indian renaissance, noting his influence on cultural pride and social awakening.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath offered a reverent tribute, acknowledging the writer’s powerful pen that enriched Hindi and ignited a fresh sense of national and linguistic pride.

Chief Ministers of Rajasthan, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh each posted messages that recognized Harishchandra’s lasting impact on Hindi drama, journalism, and cultural consciousness.

Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Keshav Prasad Maurya, lauded Harishchandra’s vibrant literary voice, which continues to inspire societal responsibility and national identity.
