Local Divers and Police Search for Missing Bathers after Sudden Flood at Arwal Ganga Ghat

At approximately 7:30 a.m. on August 3, three locals from Chausar village – Narad, Rishi and Shivam – began a ritual dip at the Kusumkhor Ganga ghat in the Arwal police area. Within minutes, a sudden increase in river velocity pushed them into the main current.

Villagers on the ghats responded instantly; one of them managed to bring Shivam ashore alive. The remaining two were carried away by the swift water. The sub‑divisional magistrate, the police in‑charge, and the deputy tehsildar arrived with fire‑burst teams. Local scuba divers were mobilised to assist the underwater search.

Authorities are conducting a coordinated sweep using divers, inflatable boats and drones. Families have assembled at the site, and officials request the public to stay clear of dangerous stretches of the river until the search concludes.

The police have also warned that any unauthorised bathing in high‑flow zones will be penalised, emphasizing the need for compliance with safety directives.
