Local Residents Call for Road Widening After Deadly Expressway Access Accident

A tragic fire broke out after a truck and a pickup collided on the approach road to the Delhi‑Mumbai Expressway near Thandla, Jhabua district, on Friday night. The crash set both vehicles ablaze, killing the pickup driver, identified as Teru Khima Bhabar from the village of Miyati. The truck driver escaped without stopping.

Police were summoned by nearby villagers, who reported the blaze. Responding officers secured the site, cleared the lane and filed a criminal case, while a manhunt for the truck driver continues.

The incident has amplified longstanding concerns from locals about the narrowness of the expressway access road, which they say forces two‑way traffic on a single strip and raises the likelihood of head‑on impacts. Residents are demanding that authorities expand the road, install proper traffic signals and take other preventative steps to avoid future loss of life.
