Life Without Parole Imposed on Convicted Rapist After Supreme Court Review

The Supreme Court, sitting in New Delhi, reviewed the case of a man found guilty of repeatedly raping his six‑year‑old stepdaughter and later killing her. The bench confirmed the conviction on charges of murder, aggravated rape, and child sexual abuse under the IPC and POCSO statutes.

While the lower courts had sentenced the accused to death, the apex court altered the punishment to a natural‑life term with no remission. The judges highlighted that the crime involved prolonged sexual exploitation followed by a calculated murder to conceal the abuse, making it one of the most serious offenses on record.

All other penalties, including monetary fines, were retained, and the court directed that the sentences be executed concurrently.
