LG TS Sandhu Warns: Narco-Terrorism Endangers World Stability

At an international summit in New Delhi on Friday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor TS Sandhu sounded the alarm on narco-terrorism, labeling it the foremost threat to worldwide security. Speaking at the Indic Researchers Forum’s conference on countering narco-terrorism, backed by collaborative institutions, Sandhu unpacked the profound links binding security challenges, economic forces, and governance structures.

The global narcotics trade, he explained, forms one of the planet’s biggest underground economies, generating revenue in the hundreds of billions each year—on par with many formal industries. This shadowy commerce doesn’t stop at borders; its financial streams intertwine with money laundering networks, syndicated crime, and terror funding, eroding governance and national defenses globally.

A particular concern, Sandhu noted, is the surge in local manufacturing of synthetic stimulants such as methamphetamine. Rising confiscations and regional proliferation indicate that traditional smuggling paths are morphing into full-fledged production zones. Tackling this demands a holistic approach: seamless intel exchange, robust policing, vigilant financial tracking, and bolstered public health measures.

These gatherings, the LG asserted, foster essential conversations and partnerships to devise synchronized countermeasures against narco-terrorism’s rise. Post-conference, Sandhu headed to the Delhi High Court for the opening of the ICA’s 5th International Conference themed ‘Arbitration in the Age of Globalization,’ bringing together key players in India’s dispute resolution landscape.

He commended the ICA’s legacy as a pioneering arbitration institution, crediting it with advancing mediation and ADR mechanisms. In today’s interconnected world, transnational business disputes are intensifying, making arbitration a cornerstone of international commerce. Its hallmarks of fairness, reliability, and enforceability empower companies to navigate legal variances with assurance.

Investor trust and business ease hinge on solid ADR systems, essential for drawing investments home and abroad. India’s multi-alignment diplomacy amplifies the need for credible arbitration to cement its role as a dependable global actor. The national capital’s ecosystem positions it perfectly to lead in arbitration services. Through sustained reforms and development, India can spearhead global arbitration, echoing ‘Make in India’ and ‘Resolve in India for the World.’
