LG Sandhu Urges Collective Effort to Build a Safe, Sustainable Delhi

Celebrating 80 years of independence, Lieutenant Governor Taranjeet Singh Sandhu raised the Indian flag at the Lok Niwas in New Delhi on August 15. He appealed to the public to work together toward a "Developed Delhi" that embodies safety, cleanliness and dignity for every resident.

The event opened with a national salute from the police. Following this, the LG addressed a gathering that comprised descendants of independence fighters, Resident Welfare Association representatives, youth influencers and students. He enumerated Delhi’s top challenges: restoring the Yamuna river, curbing air pollution, ensuring affordable housing, extending low‑cost healthcare and strengthening law‑and‑order measures.

Sandhu stressed that the foundation of good governance in the capital must reflect Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas". He called for an integrated approach involving the central government, Delhi administration, local municipalities, neighboring states and citizens to turn obstacles into opportunities. He underlined the critical need for women and child safety, efficient traffic regulation and protection of Delhi’s cultural heritage.

Referencing the Prime Minister’s "Shakti Ki Saptadhara" vision, Sandhu listed the seven focus streams – manufacturing, agriculture & food processing, technology & innovation, speed power, defence, green‑blue economies, and soft power – describing them as engines that will drive India’s progress in the coming years.

In an X post, the LG expressed reverence for the sacrifices of freedom fighters and called for renewed commitment to the Prime Minister’s inclusive development agenda.

Sandhu concluded by lauding the enthusiastic spirit of Delhi’s people, noting that their unity made the Independence Day ceremony especially memorable.
