Legend of Sage Katyayan and the Birth of Goddess Katyayani

The mythic narrative recounts that Sage Katyayan, grandson of the sage Kat, performed an austere tapas for the supreme goddess. His sincere wish was to have a daughter who could aid humanity. Pleased, the goddess descended in human form, becoming his child and later known across the world as Katyayani. This origin story explains why devotees invoke her as a compassionate mother who grants wishes, particularly those concerning marital unions.
