Legal tussle intensifies as TMC challenges KMC billboard takedown

The Trinamool Congress, under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, has escalated its legal battle over the removal of a disputed billboard from the roof of MP Abhishek Banerjee’s Camac Street office. On Thursday, Kolkata Municipal Corporation workers arrived at the site around 4:45 p.m. and began dismantling the structure, prompting confrontations with TMC supporters. The party’s former advocate‑general, Kishore Dutta, brought the matter before a special single bench of the Calcutta High Court, seeking a swift hearing. Justice Raja Basu Choudhary permitted the filing of a case but clarified that the court cannot entertain the petition until a formal case number is assigned. The judge also instructed the petitioners to notify the KMC and Kolkata Police. The hearing is slated for Friday after the procedural formalities are completed.
