Legal battle over nomination paperwork ends with ruling in favor of minister

The High Court concluded a five‑month legal battle concerning the validity of nomination paperwork submitted by K. Sengottayan, the Revenue Minister of Tamil Nadu. The petitioner, former AIADMK candidate Prabhu, claimed that a notary’s licence had expired before the documents were authenticated, rendering the entire nomination void.

After hearing arguments from both sides, Justice Ilanthiriyan concluded that the notary‑licence issue alone could not invalidate the election outcome. He therefore dismissed the petition, clearing the way for Sengottayan to continue representing Gobichettipalayam in the state assembly.
