Legal Battle Over Mayors Road Event Between Two Trinamool Factions Escalates

A single‑judge bench of the Kolkata High Court has cleared the way for an immediate hearing on a legal tussle between two Trinamool Congress splinter groups. Both factions have asked the court to allow them to commemorate the foundation day of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad on August 28 at Mayors Road, a venue that has historically hosted the student wing’s celebrations.

Presiding Justice Sougata Bhatta‑Charya accepted the petitions on August 24 and set the next date for Tuesday. The conflict mirrors a July 21 incident when the factions tried to organise simultaneous Shaheed Day events, leading the court to grant only a limited rally to the group led by the former chief minister.

The pending decision will determine which side, if any, receives permission to use the Mayors Road site for the upcoming foundation‑day ceremony.
