Legal Battle Intensifies Over Bail Granted to Sonam Raghvanshi
In a contentious legal showdown, the State of Meghalaya is urging the Supreme Court to overturn a High Court decision that allowed Sonam Raghvanshi to remain out of custody. The case stems from the murder of Raja Raghvanshi, who disappeared with his wife during a honeymoon in May 2025 and was later found dead with multiple injuries near Vyasavdong Falls. Police allege that Sonam conspired with a lover and other accomplices to orchestrate the killing. While the prosecution contends that the accused was fully aware of the murder charge, the court observed that all arrest documents mistakenly cited Section 403(1) instead of the appropriate Section 103(1). The state argues that the technical error does not diminish the gravity of the offence.
