Legal battles over illegal land seizure keep Sumeet Roy out of jail

Investigators allege that Roy used forged documents to take over a parcel of land owned by the state government in Salboni and subsequently sold it. After a complaint was filed, police registered an FIR and began an inquiry. Because Roy could not be located at any of his known addresses, a local magistrate issued an arrest warrant. Police teams from the CID had earlier searched Abhishek Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat and Roy’s in‑law’s house in Serampore in June, but could not find him.
