Legal Battle Continues as High Court Pushes Back Demolition Order for Trinamool Leader’s Office

The legal dispute over the demolition of the Amatala headquarters of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee continues as the Kolkata High Court pushes back the order. Justice Subhra Ghosh, sitting alone, extended the interim stay until 18 September and fixed 8 September for the subsequent hearing. The property is recorded in the name of Leaps and Bounds Private Limited, a firm tied to the Banerjee family. During the hearing, the company’s counsel highlighted that only plots 509 and 512 were cited for illegal work, whereas the office on plot 507, belonging to Banerjee, was already demolished and the owners seek compensation. The state’s Advocate General sought a brief adjournment. Earlier, the district administration had served two notices, and after no reply, partially demolished the building on 18 July, labeling the construction unlawful.
