Legal Battle Over Abhishek Banerjee's Office Signage Highlights Need for Notice

A dispute over the removal of a party logo and name from the rooftop of Abhishek Banerjee’s Camac Street office has turned into a legal flashpoint. Trinamool’s counsel, Kapil Sibbhal, contended that the demolition was carried out without serving the required notice, a breach of statutory protocol.

He pointed out that the Kolkata police were alerted on August 26 about the necessity of security for the operation, yet no notice was issued to the party. The high court’s initial observation that the removal rendered the case moot was challenged, with the Supreme Court bench stressing that the grievance remains viable until adjudicated.

The Supreme Court’s order now mandates the high court to hear the party’s arguments and issue a definitive ruling, reinforcing the principle that notice is a cornerstone of lawful administrative action.
