Large Cache of Firearms Confiscated During Manipur Anti‑Terror Operations
Joint anti‑terror operations carried out by Manipur Police and central security units over the last two days resulted in the seizure of a massive weapons cache in the Infal region. The coordinated missions uncovered an extensive assortment of firearms, ammunition, and explosive devices.
The haul features eleven single‑barrel breech‑loading shotguns, a set of six pistols, an anti‑riot gun, thirty‑seven powerful hand grenades, a single white phosphorus grenade, and an improvised explosive device weighing approximately 4.6 kilograms. In addition, operatives recovered six empty magazines for SLR, INSAS and .303 rifles, along with 86 distinct types of ammunition and six anti‑riot shells.
The inventory also includes 162 live cartridges of various calibers, 26 empty cartridge cases, and two stun shells. Among the seized equipment were two handheld communication devices, a bullet‑proof steel plate, a protective jacket cover, a vehicle support kit, and a set of military‑grade accessories such as a charge‑loader and a communication set.
Authorities also seized numerous incriminating documents, including donation receipts, cash, seals, and letterheads associated with prohibited organisations. The seized items point to organized fundraising, extortion and recruitment activities by the banned groups.
Following the operation, security officials have intensified surveillance across the state’s vulnerable border and mixed‑population districts. Over a hundred checkpoints and observation points have been established to monitor suspect traffic, particularly in the hill and valley districts.
Enhanced security measures on the Infal‑Jiribam National Highway (NH‑37) now include armed escorts for commercial and passenger vehicles, ensuring a smooth flow of goods and commuters while deterring any further illicit movement of weapons.
The successful seizure demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between state police, the Central Armed Police Forces, and other security agencies in curbing insurgent capabilities throughout the region.
