Lakshman Prasad Acharya Seeks Guidance from Union Home Minister
In a meeting held in New Delhi on Thursday, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya sought guidance from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on expanding youth-focused national programmes in the state.
Acharya began the meeting by congratulating Shah on Vijayadashami and offering birthday wishes.
He then presented the work being carried out through Lok Bhavan to build patriotism, national responsibility and self-reliance among young people. He pointed to campaigns in Assam that create awareness against narcotics use and promote a healthy society. These steps, he said, align with the objectives of the Centre's Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
The statement issued after the meeting said these efforts support the larger national vision of a healthy and developed India.
The Governor also described the 'Namo Matribhoomi: Rashtriya Suraksha evam Swavlamban Sankalp Saptah' initiative. The campaign seeks to spread awareness about national security, encourage self-reliance, build a drug-free society and nurture a sense of duty toward the country among the youth.
Stressing that people's continued participation is central to nation-building, Acharya asked for Shah's guidance on strengthening these programmes and improving their reach and impact, especially among young people.
The two leaders also discussed the importance of integrated efforts in youth empowerment, national security, self-reliance and inclusive development, with particular focus on Assam's border districts.
The Governor emphasised that initiatives centred on citizens play a key role in developing national consciousness and collective responsibility. He said these programmes aim to encourage young people to contribute meaningfully to the country and to strengthen the foundation of a secure, self-reliant and developed India.
The meeting coincides with continuing efforts to involve youth in nation-building activities and to raise awareness about social responsibility, public health and security as national priorities.
Officials said the initiatives are meant to inspire citizens, particularly the younger generation, to fulfil their obligations toward society and the nation.
