Four Police Officers Wounded in Lakhsiraj Village Assault; Dozens Detained
A routine raid turned chaotic in the village of Balagudar, Sahni Tola, Lakhsiraj on November 8 when a Nagar police team was confronted by a large, hostile crowd. The operation was prompted by reports of drunken disorder, illicit alcohol storage, and gambling near the village's "Kali" area.
The police unit abandoned its vehicles near the Kali Temple and moved on foot toward the alleged hotspot. Within moments, a throng estimated at 200 people surrounded the officers, chanting and pelting them with stones. Two police vehicles were also vandalized during the uproar.
Four officers sustained injuries: Sub‑Inspector Tribhuwan Thakur suffered a head injury, a woman constable was gravely hurt, and two additional constables received injuries from the projectiles. The injured personnel were given immediate medical attention and later transported to a district hospital for further treatment.
Initial attempts to detain two suspects were foiled when the mob freed them, but subsequent police action resulted in the arrest of at least twelve individuals. Authorities are currently reviewing nearby CCTV footage to identify more participants and are promising a swift judicial process.
The police department has reiterated its commitment to a thorough investigation and assured that anyone found culpable will face strict penalties. The incident highlights the volatile nature of law‑enforcement actions in areas plagued by illegal liquor trade and gambling, and the need for stronger community‑police engagement.
