Kushwaha Calls for Legal Action Against Kharge Over PM Modi Remarks

Patna, October 26: Umesh Kushwaha, state president of the Bihar JD(U), has condemned remarks made by Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Kushwaha said the language used was offensive and that legal action should be taken against Kharge.

Kushwaha, speaking in Patna, said Kharge is 84 years old and such language is unbecoming at his age. He said political opposition is part of democracy, but street-style language has no place in politics. He added that Kharge has been in politics for a long time and should know better.

"The unseemly remarks made against PM Modi are deplorable. A case should be registered for using such language. I condemn his statement," Kushwaha said.

When asked about the opposition's claim that the government was formed through 'vote chori', Kushwaha said the topic had been discussed at length. He said Tejashwi Yadav, the opposition leader in Bihar, should first answer questions about his own victory. Kushwaha asked whether Yadav had also won through 'vote chori'. He noted that Yadav has 25 MLAs and said he should obtain their resignations before raising such questions.

Kushwaha further said Congress describes election processes as clean when it wins in states where it governs, but raises allegations when it is defeated. He said such statements were a source of amusement and questioned how they should be responded to.

On the expulsion of MLA Anant Singh, Kushwaha said Singh had been working against the party. Although he was a party MLA, Singh was not showing faith in JD(U)'s policies, principles or programmes, Kushwaha said. He alleged that Singh campaigned against the party's declared candidate in the MLC elections and participated in the campaigns, nominations and other programmes of opposition candidates. Kushwaha also said Singh had made unfavourable comments about the party's top leadership, which indicated he was acting against party activities.

Kushwaha said the party runs on discipline, and that the importance given to discipline and principles reflects the values of leader Nitish Kumar.

On opposition reactions to the episode, Kushwaha recalled that in the 2025 Assembly elections, rivals had claimed the party would be restricted to a few seats and that JD(U) would be finished. He said voters showed that Nitish Kumar has no alternative in Bihar. He advised the opposition to remember that its false allegations had been followed by a clear verdict from the public in the Assembly elections.
