Kusum Scheme Boosts Irrigation With Solar Power in Haryana

The PM‑Kusum initiative is delivering on its promise of energy‑secure agriculture in Haryana.

In Khajpur, Jhajjar, farmer Parveen Kumar recently installed a solar‑driven water pump after receiving a 75 percent subsidy from the central government. He contributes the remaining 25 percent, making the project financially viable.

The pump draws energy directly from the sun, so power cuts no longer halt irrigation. Kumar can now water his three‑acre plot and a modest nursery during any sunny hour, completing the work before dusk.

According to the farmer, this independence from the electricity grid has not only streamlined his daily routine but also enhanced crop health, as irrigation timing is now under his control rather than dictated by unpredictable load‑shedding.
