Kundarki Bypoll Win Highlights Moradabad's Battle for 2027

Lucknow, October 27: With assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh drawing closer, the political temperature in Moradabad is rising. Parties are reviewing past performance and planning their next moves, and the district's previous results offer an important reference point for understanding the competition ahead.

Moradabad, known for its brassware industry and its nickname Pital Nagari, has six assembly seats. These are Kanth, Thakurdwara, Moradabad Rural, Moradabad Nagar, Kundarki and Bilari. Examining how each seat voted in the last assembly election, along with the Kundarki bypoll result, reveals the strength of different parties across the district.

In the Kanth constituency, the Samajwadi Party's Kamal Akhtar won comfortably in 2022, defeating BJP's Rajesh Kumar Singh by 43,178 votes. Akhtar's total of 1,34,692 votes was considerably higher than Singh's 91,514. The BSP's Afaq Ali Khan finished third.

Thakurdwara was also won by the SP in 2022. Nawab Jaan defeated BJP's Ajay Pratap Singh by 19,684 votes, collecting 1,34,391 votes to Singh's 1,14,707. BSP's Mujahid Ali received 22,163 votes.

The Moradabad Rural seat has remained with the Samajwadi Party for nearly two decades. The party has won all four assembly elections held here since 2007. Mohammad Nasir Qureshi of the SP won in 2022 with 1,43,337 votes, beating BJP's Krishna Kant Mishra by 56,820 votes.

Moradabad Nagar was decided by the narrowest of margins. BJP's Ritesh Gupta won with 1,48,384 votes, just 782 more than SP's Mohammad Yusuf Ansari, who polled 1,47,602. BSP's Irshad Husain Saifi came third with 14,013 votes.

In Bilari, Mohammad Faheem Irfan of the SP defeated BJP's Parmeshwar Lal Saini by 7,610 votes. Irfan secured 95,338 votes and Saini 87,728. Irfan's win marked his third consecutive victory in this constituency.

Kundarki presents the most dramatic shift. In 2022, SP's Ziaur Rahman won the seat by 43,162 votes against BJP's Kamal Kumar. The 2024 bypoll changed the picture entirely, as BJP's Thakur Ramveer Singh won with 1,70,371 votes, a margin of 1,44,791 votes over SP's Mohammad Rizwan, who received 25,580 votes.

Taken together, these results show that the contest in Moradabad remains highly competitive, and both the SP and BJP will be watching these seats closely as 2027 approaches.
