Kuldeep Yadav, Tilak Verma Witness Divine Ashes Ritual at Mahakaleshwar

In a rare convergence of sport and devotion, Indian cricketers Kuldeep Yadav and Tilak Verma participated in the Ashes Aarti of Baba Mahakal at the historic Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain.

Arriving at approximately 4 a.m., the players were welcomed by a throng of pilgrims. The ceremony began with the traditional opening of the temple doors, accompanied by drumbeats and the resonant shankh sound.

The main ash‑sprinkling ritual took place in the Nandi Hall, where the deity was smeared with sanctified ash and a silver crown. The cricketers sat alongside devotees, reciting the deity’s name and receiving blessings that are believed to bring protection and success.

Following the ash Aarti, both athletes proceeded to the Kal Bhairav shrine, offering their respects and seeking divine guidance for upcoming matches. The entire complex echoed with the chant “Jai Shri Mahakal,” bells, and the rhythmic cadence of drums.

The event highlighted the temple’s role as a cultural hub where traditional rituals attract not only local worshippers but also national personalities, reinforcing Ujjain’s status as a pilgrimage centre.
