Kota Student's Death Sparks Debate Over Gaming Restrictions

Jaipur, August 10 – The suicide of 16‑year‑old Mayank Nagar, a class‑11 student from Kota, Rajasthan, has ignited a discussion on the impact of mobile gaming and parental control.

Mayank's father, Chauthmal Nagar, a painter with a pre‑existing heart condition, took away his son's phone on Sunday after catching him engrossed in a game. The teenager, who reportedly spent most of his free time on the device, reacted by ingesting a lethal poison.

Emergency services were called, and Mayank was taken to a private hospital, where he died during treatment on Monday morning.

Family members initially declined a post‑mortem, but police persuaded them to allow an autopsy at the New Medical College Hospital morgue. The examination was completed, and the remains were handed over to the family.

The loss has left the Nagar family in deep distress. The father’s health has deteriorated further, and his wife is described as being inconsolable.

Dadarbadi SHO Baldev Ram stated that a case has been registered following the family's complaint, and the investigation is ongoing.

Community leaders and mental‑health professionals are calling for greater awareness about teenage stress, responsible gaming habits, and constructive communication between parents and children to prevent similar tragedies.
