Kolkata Traffic Case: Abhishek Banerjee Hands Over Partial Documents to Kalighat Police
On Sunday, a representative of Abhishek Banerjee, a Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress, delivered a batch of documents to Kalighat police station concerning a Motor Vehicles Act violation. The police had earlier served a notice asking for several evidentiary papers after an FIR was filed on July 1 by Rajiv Sarkar of Baguihati.
The FIR claims that Banerjee’s security personnel operated his vehicle in a manner that endangered public safety, breaching Sections 123 and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Additional charges under the Indian Penal Code—Sections 281 (dangerous driving on a public road), 125 (negligent driving), and 223 (failure to obey legal orders)—have also been cited.
Although most of the demanded files were handed over, investigators note that some key documents are still missing. The police have warned that a fresh notice could be served to secure the outstanding paperwork. This development occurs while Banerjee remains under the scanner of anti‑corruption agencies for separate allegations, including a signature mismatch controversy.
