Kolkata Shipyard Unveils Fifth DSC A24 for Indian Navy

The Titagarh Shipyard in Kolkata proudly launched the fifth Diving Support Craft, designated DSC A24, on 2 August as part of the Indian Navy’s ongoing modernization drive. Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh, Chief of Personnel, performed the christening ceremony, which followed traditional naval protocols.

The vessel, also called Yard 329, carries a displacement of about 300‑400 tonnes. Its catamaran‑hull form – two parallel hulls joined by a common deck – offers heightened stability, a larger working surface, and superior seakeeping, all essential for demanding diving missions.

Outfitted with cutting‑edge diving equipment, DSC A24 is built for operational dives, underwater inspections, rescue operations, and coastal tasking. Around 70 percent of the ship’s main and auxiliary components are sourced from domestic manufacturers, reinforcing its indigenous profile.

The introduction of DSC A24 enhances the Navy’s underwater operational reach and demonstrates the technical prowess of India’s shipbuilding sector, advancing the goal of defence self‑sufficiency.
