Kolkata Residents Targeted by Fraudsters Posing as Tata Capital Finance

Residents of Kolkata fell prey to a ring that masqueraded as employees of Tata Capital Finance, offering immediate loans at reduced interest rates. The impersonators produced bogus documents and a counterfeit demand draft to create the illusion of legitimacy.

A complainant from the Metiabruz area filed a police report after paying INR 25,450 in installments for processing, insurance, and documentation fees. The promised loan of INR 2.18 million never materialised, prompting the victim to seek legal assistance.

The joint raid by the Port Division cyber cell and Metiabruz police resulted in the capture of ten individuals. Among the seized items were 48 keypad mobiles, a smartphone, a laptop, six SIM cards, and two rubber stamps used to forge official paperwork.

Investigators are employing technical surveillance data to trace other members of the operation. The police continue to question the arrested suspects to determine the full scale of the fraud and to locate any additional victims.
