Kolkata police rolls out extensive women‑protection and cyber‑safety campaign

Kolkata’s Durga Security Squad has kicked off an extensive awareness campaign that will run for a full month, targeting 120 neighborhoods under the oversight of 60 police stations. The programme’s objective is to inform citizens about crimes targeting women and the dangers of cyber‑based fraud.

According to a senior officer, the Lalbazar police headquarters selected the specific locales, prioritising residential districts and heavily trafficked public venues. Outreach initiatives will include handing out brochures, using loudspeaker announcements, and showcasing brief educational videos at key intersections.

A unified task force, consisting of staff from local police stations, cyber police divisions, women police stations, and women’s cells, will execute the plan. Daily patrols will cover two police‑station areas, allowing teams to reach four locations each day.

The squad has been supplied with ten scooters and a dedicated vehicle to enhance patrol efficiency. Support from cyber‑crime units and the intelligence department will bolster investigative capabilities.

The campaign is part of the state government’s stringent policy on women‑related offenses and follows the establishment of the Durga Security Squad for swift action against harassment in public spaces. Police stations now host cyber help desks to aid victims of online scams.

Women officers will patrol the city on motorcycles, extending their presence to peripheral regions including Basirhat, Bangaon, and Barasat within the Presidency Range. An advanced real‑time audio‑video transmission system has been deployed to monitor incidents live when needed.
