From Kitchen to Business: Neemuch Women Earn Thousands Thanks to NRLM Loans

Historically, many women in Neemuch’s smallest hamlets were limited to household chores and occasional kitchen‑based work. The introduction of the Lakhpati Didi scheme under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership has redefined those boundaries. By linking women to the National Rural Livelihood Mission, SHGs receive RF, CIF and CCL loans that fund diverse ventures such as flour milling, pottery, dairy farming, tailoring, and retail.

Ragini Kumar Rajput’s journey epitomises this change. After joining the “Kisan Saheli” SHG, she obtained a substantial loan, purchased a patla‑dona machine, and later helped launch additional groups in her village. Her earnings now surpass the modest amounts she once earned from a small clothing stall, and she continues to support other women in establishing their own businesses.

Monika Kumari and Deepika Bagri echo similar experiences. Monika’s Narmada group secured a loan that allowed her to start a small shop, while Deepika’s Khatushyam group accessed a ₹12 lakh credit line, creating a dairy farm and an animal‑feed unit that serve both members and the wider community.

These transformations demonstrate how strategic credit, collective organization, and government backing can move women from dependency to entrepreneurship, generating higher household incomes and fostering a culture of self‑reliance in rural Madhya Pradesh.
