Kingsway Camp Release Marks End of Standoff Over Election Commissioner Protest
The standoff that began when a group of India Alliance MPs staged a sit‑in outside the Election Commission office concluded with the release of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi from Kingsway Camp's New Police Line. The protest, which started as a demand to meet Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, escalated after activists tried to breach the commission's gate.
Police responded by arresting several participants, including the two senior Congress leaders. They were taken to the New Police Line for questioning and released later the same day.
In a subsequent media briefing, Rahul Gandhi accused the government of attempting to erode democratic institutions. He urged the public to remain vigilant and called for a transparent electoral process free from political interference.
