Khategaon Station In-Charge Dies in Dewas Liquor Smuggling Chase
Dewas, Madhya Pradesh: The in-charge of Khategaon police station lost his life in Dewas district after a suspected liquor-smuggling truck ran him over during an attempt to stop it. The incident has shocked the local police force.
A tip-off led police to a truck allegedly carrying illegal liquor from Harda toward Gujarat via Indore. To catch the vehicle, Dewas SP Aditya Mishra formed more than five teams. Officers from Kannod, Satwas and Khategaon police stations were part of the operation. Police pursued the truck and also set up a checkpoint on the route ahead.
The truck stopped briefly on the Harda-Nemawar highway so the driver could drink water. Khategaon in-charge Dilip Puri reached the spot to take him into custody and asked him to come down from the truck. The discussion turned into an argument. It is being said that the driver then tried to escape with the truck. During this, Puri fell, and the truck's rear wheel rolled over him, causing severe injuries that proved fatal.
Dilip Puri was a sub-inspector from the 2007 batch and had earlier worked at Hira Nagar and Chandan Nagar police stations.
Police have impounded the truck, MP 43 H 4786, filled with liquor, and arrested the driver. Officers involved in the raid said Rahul Jaiswal of Harda has been named in the smuggling case, and Dewas-based smugglers are also part of the network. After the incident was reported, SP Aditya Mishra and other senior officers reached the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and Puri's family has been informed.
