Khadi Board Drives Employment Through Hospital Textile Purchases

Lucknow, 15 September – In a bid to strengthen the livelihood of handloom craftsmen, Uttar Pradesh will source essential hospital supplies such as bed sheets and gauze from local weavers. The decision was taken during a review session chaired by Minister Rakesh Sachan at the Khadi and Village Industries Board premises.

The scheme mandates that all products supplied to government medical facilities comply with predefined quality standards. Procurement will be routed through the Uttar Pradesh State Handloom Corporation Limited, which will coordinate with individual weavers and their cooperatives.

The government’s policy seeks to transform public procurement into a catalyst for sustainable employment, ensuring that weaving families receive consistent orders and a stable income stream.
