Key development in 2021 election‑related murder case as CBI detains Khalid
In a decisive move, the Central Bureau of Investigation has taken into custody Khalid-Uj-Jaman, a wanted figure in the murder of Hasnour Jaman, an incident classified under the post‑poll violence that rocked West Bengal in 2021.
The suspect was apprehended from a distant area of Yetala village, Nanded district, Maharashtra, after weeks of coordination between the CBI and local police. Khalid’s evasion had hampered the legal process; he never presented himself before the Kolkata High Court’s order dated August 19, 2021, nor during the subsequent court hearings.
The fugitive was placed before the Dharamabad competent court, which issued a transit remand. He will be escorted back to West Bengal for appearance before an additional sessions judge in Barasat. Prosecutors expect that his detention will close a critical gap in the case file and pave the way for a faster resolution of the lingering election‑related violence investigations.
