Kerala opposition says ED is weaponising law against CPI(M)

KANNUR, Sept 12 — Senior Marxist leader Pinaraij Vizhen demanded that the Enforcement Directorate cease what he called “political instrumentation” of the Prevention of Money‑Laundering Act. He said the agency’s renewed focus on the CMRL case is part of a broader strategy to dent the influence of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the state.

The ED’s letter to the police chief sought an FIR against Vizhen, his family members and others connected to the alleged transaction involving Exalogic Solutions. The agency claims that the firm received INR 2.78 crore for a non‑existent IT‑consultancy, and that the money was actually a bribe for preferential treatment granted to CMRL during Vizhen’s tenure as chief minister.

Vizhen highlighted the inconsistency between the original allegation—unearned payment to a dummy firm—and the current narrative of personal graft. He urged the ED to resolve this “basic paradox” with solid documentary proof, rather than relying on political dramatics.

Calling the probe an organized attempt to weaken the CPI(M), Vizhen accused central investigative bodies of acting as extensions of the Sangh‑parivar’s political agenda, seeking to eliminate secular opposition forces. He assured his party that it will withstand such intimidation and continue its struggle for a progressive Kerala.
