Kerala’s Monthly Recognition Programme Aims to Boost Police Morale and Public Cooperation

A recent directive from the Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order), P. Vijayan, instructs each district and unit headquarters to hold monthly “Appreciation Day” events. The purpose is to formally document the names of honoured officers and citizens, along with a brief description of the specific act that earned the accolade. Records and photographs of the ceremonies must be submitted to the Law & Order ADGP by the first day of the following month. If an event cannot be held on the designated Saturday, it must be rescheduled for an earlier date within the same month. By institutionalising this practice, the state seeks to reinforce a culture of recognition and strengthen the partnership between police and the communities they serve.
