Ker Puja Observed at Ujjayant Palace Amid Strict Ritual Restrictions

The historic Ujjayant Palace in Agartala served as the backdrop for this year’s Ker Puja, a ritual that has endured for centuries. Chief Minister Manik Saha, BJP state president Abhishek Debroy, and District Magistrate Vishal Kumar witnessed the ceremony, which is traditionally performed under a canopy of bamboo that symbolizes protection.

The ceremony’s rules are stringent: no one may cross the sacred perimeter during the puja, and routine life events such as births, deaths or festivities are suspended until the rites are completed. These protocols aim to maintain the sanctity of the worship space and to channel positive energy for the community.

Ker Puja lasts for 2½ days and is scheduled after the seven‑day Kharchi Puja, which honors fourteen Hindu deities. This year's Kharchi Puja was held at the former royal capital, now called Khairpur, underscoring the continuity of royal patronage in Tripura’s religious life.

The chief minister affirmed that the festival’s core purpose is to nurture solidarity, protect land rights, and repel harmful influences, thereby fostering a peaceful and prosperous society.
