Ker‑Betwa Project Bus Crash Leaves Fifteen Hospitalised After Brake Malfunction
A serious road accident occurred in the evening of October 9 in Chhatarpur district when a bus carrying workers from the Ker‑Betwa link project experienced a total brake failure.
According to statements from the survivors, the bus was parked temporarily on a slope when the driver attempted to move it. Inside the vehicle were an estimated 40 to 45 laborers. As soon as the vehicle started, the driver warned that the brakes had failed, and the bus accelerated uncontrollably.
With a river running parallel to the road, panic set in and many workers chose to jump off the moving bus. The sudden leap caused multiple injuries, including head trauma and fractured limbs. One worker died from the impact, while fifteen others were taken to the district hospital for treatment.
Hospital officials confirmed that the injured are under observation and their conditions are currently stable. A forensic examination of the bus’s braking system has been ordered to determine the technical cause of the failure.
The local administration has urged construction firms to review safety protocols for employee transport, especially in hilly terrains.
