Arvind Kejriwal’s Promotion Stunt Fails as Niti Aayog Data Shows Weak Investor Climate
The Niti Aayog Investment‑Friendliness Index 2026, released on Sunday, has placed Punjab at the 22nd position, a ranking that directly challenges the narrative advanced by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP’s Punjab leadership.
Kejriwal has frequently used Punjab as a showcase for the party’s development agenda, describing the state as a “model of progress” in national media. The BJP’s Punjab chief, Sardar Keval Singh Dhalon, argued that the index’s findings prove the opposition’s claims to be nothing more than a publicity exercise.
The report points to a fragile regulatory environment, rising concerns over law‑and‑order, and a lack of transparent industrial policies as reasons investors remain hesitant. Despite a series of high‑profile MoUs and multimillion‑rupee advertising blitzes, the actual influx of new factories and job opportunities has been negligible.
“Political slogans and photo‑ops cannot replace substantive policy reforms,” Dhalon asserted. “The data makes it clear that Punjab’s business climate is deteriorating, and the electorate deserves tangible results, not empty rhetoric.”
The BJP leader concluded by urging the AAP administration to focus on creating a stable, investor‑friendly ecosystem—strengthening infrastructure, ensuring lawfulness, and simplifying procedures—to restore confidence among domestic and foreign capital providers.
