Comparison with Karnataka Stirs Demand for Immediate PRC in Telangana
Asaduddin Owaisi, the head of All India Majlis‑e‑Ittehadul Muslimeen, on Monday highlighted an apparent policy gap in Telangana by referencing Karnataka’s proactive stance on Permanent Residence Certificates (PRC). While Karnataka, governed by the Congress party, continues to grant PRCs to its underprivileged citizens, Telangana’s administration has yet to roll out the same measure.
Owaisi stressed that numerous impoverished families in the state lack any form of official identification, a situation that threatens their inclusion in the upcoming Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls. He demanded that the state issue PRCs promptly to prevent disenfranchisement.
The leader said he has already discussed the concern with Deputy Chief Minister Malla Bhatti Vikramarka and is requesting a face‑to‑face meeting with Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, who he described as “extremely busy.”
Referencing the Supreme Court’s judgement that continuous four‑year study in state institutions makes a person eligible for education and employment, Owaisi proposed that the government adopt Aadhaar, ration card, school and revenue records as the primary verification tools for PRC distribution.
