In a pointed remark amid Karnataka Congress’ leadership transition whispers, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stated Tuesday that reining in ministers and MLAs falls under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s purview.
The state Congress chief fielded questions from the media near his Bengaluru home, tackling rumors of a top-level switch and advocacy for a Dalit leader at the helm. He drew a firm line: ‘Disciplining the cabinet and assembly members is the CM’s duty. My role as PCC president involves updating the high command on organizational issues.’
Shivakumar highlighted his ongoing dialogue with PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi, a vocal Siddaramaiah ally. ‘He’s a veteran who partnered with me as working president. We connect every week, aligned on vision, plotting the party’s path to reclaim dominance.’
He sarcastically addressed HC Mahadevappa’s pitch for a Dalit CM in case of vacancy. ‘Noted his comment—no further discussions. As a high command insider, he might know something I don’t.’
No Delhi summons for him or the CM, Shivakumar clarified, but a work trip looms to secure Rs 1 lakh crore for urban projects, prioritizing smaller cities’ growth plans.
On demands for cabinet refresh via MLAs’ letters, he voiced support: ‘Ambition is natural. Youth and fresh perspectives need entry. After 36 years in office, it’s time to step aside. Party decides, CM executes expansions.’
These statements reflect deepening fault lines in Karnataka’s ruling Congress, balancing administrative momentum with internal power plays. Shivakumar’s stance aims to quell unrest while reinforcing hierarchical clarity ahead of political challenges.
