Karnataka chief minister pushes Mekedatu approval, cites Supreme Court backing

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that his administration will accelerate efforts to obtain central clearance for the Mekedatu dam. He referenced a Supreme Court decision that, in his view, favours Karnataka and said the state will seek permission from the Centre to proceed with construction. Shivakumar claimed the dam will benefit Karnataka farmers in the same way the Krishna Raj Sagar dam did.
