Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer urged to order recount after alleged EC guideline breaches

A delegation of senior NDA leaders, including Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and Karnataka minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, met in Bengaluru on Monday to press the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer for action.

The group submitted a formal memorandum demanding a probe into the voter list revision process overseen by Chief Electoral Officer V. Ambu Kumar. They alleged that the state government had violated Election Commission directives by distributing census questionnaires in batches rather than conducting mandatory house‑to‑house verification.

Joshi accused the administration of conducting separate headcounts in selected booths under the Greater Bangalore Authority, an act he described as unconstitutional and designed to sabotage the SIR.

The delegation insisted that the officer order a fresh recount in all polling stations where alleged irregularities were identified. The Chief Electoral Officer acknowledged the concerns and assured that a comprehensive investigation would be launched.

If the findings do not lead to corrective measures, the NDA team said it will meet the Chief Election Commissioner in New Delhi on July 7 to seek further redress.
