Karnataka Cabinet Approves Increased Housing Reservation for Minorities

The Karnataka Cabinet has sanctioned an increase in the reservation quota for minority communities in various housing schemes, raising it from 10 percent to 15 percent. Minister HK Patil confirmed the decision, stating that it necessitates no new rule-making. The increase encompasses all minority communities, including Christians, Jains, and Buddhists. In response to the announcement, BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya criticized the move, labeling it as "brazen," "blatantly illegal," and "unconstitutional" on social media. Malviya accused the Congress government of pursuing short-term political gains by fostering division and polarization within Karnataka's communities. The revised reservation policy will be applicable across all housing initiatives managed by the Urban and Rural Development Departments throughout the state.
