Karnataka Braces for Intensified Monsoon as IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alerts

The India Meteorological Department has released a fresh advisory indicating that Karnataka will be hit by widespread heavy rainfall in the next 24‑48 hours. The forecast points to the state's coastal belt, the Malnad foothills and several interior districts receiving intense showers linked to the south‑west monsoon and a low‑pressure system.

Udupi, Mangluru and Karwar are expected to face heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, while the sea condition has been labeled hazardous, prompting officials to advise fishermen to stay ashore. Hill districts such as Shivamogga, Chikmagalur, Madikeri and Hassan have been placed under a yellow alert for moderate to heavy rain.

In the south‑central region, districts including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Kolar, Mysuru, Mandya, Tumakuru and Chamarajanagar are likely to see moderate precipitation. Northern districts—Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Kalaburagi, Yadgir and Ballari—are forecast to experience thunderstorms with rain and wind speeds reaching 30‑40 km/h.

Experts attribute the heightened activity to cyclonic circulation over the Arabian Sea, which is expected to increase wind speeds and drive moisture inland. The department also issued a sea‑state warning, urging the fishing community to avoid venturing out.

Local authorities have mobilised disaster response teams and reminded citizens to keep evacuation routes clear, secure vulnerable structures and stay tuned to official weather bulletins.
