Aastha Kunj Park in Kalkaji Strengthens Security Measures

New Delhi, October 24: Security arrangements at Aastha Kunj Park in Kalkaji have been strengthened, according to an official who spoke on Saturday. The park is maintained by the Delhi Development Authority, and the steps include deployment of allotted guards, installation of 105 extra lights and CCTV surveillance.

The official said adequate protective measures are being adopted to address the park's lighting and security gaps. All security guards allotted to the park are now on duty.

With 142.41 acres of land and 29 gates to monitor, the park requires consistent coverage. Regular patrols are therefore conducted throughout the premises. Night patrolling is supported by two siren-equipped motorcycles, torches and other necessary safety tools.

The site in-charge, security supervisors and departmental staff carry out unannounced night checks to confirm security preparedness and guard presence.

The park currently has 340 functional lights. An additional 105 lights have been put up in line with the recommendations of the security audit report.

A joint inspection with electricity officials has taken place. The proposal to install high-mast lights at appropriate identified spots is currently being processed.

Around 99 per cent of the park lies within the morphological ridge. Keeping this in mind, extra lighting for densely vegetated zones is being designed with caution to protect plant life and wildlife, while ensuring that walkways and visitor areas remain well lit.

Four CCTV cameras were placed after the incident, and every camera is presently working.

Damaged portions of the boundary wall have been fixed. No fresh cracks or damage to the wall have been reported.

All gates have been converted to lockable ones, as advised in the security audit. The wicket gates are closed at 9:00 pm as per the current arrangement.

Lights, CCTV cameras, gates, the boundary wall, and the work of security personnel are checked regularly. Where any lapses are found, corrective steps are taken without delay.

Guards register their physical attendance and also make several biometric entries, which are monitored through a dashboard.

The report concluded that essential measures, such as staff deployment, 105 new lights, functional CCTV, wall repairs and better gate security, are in place. Efforts to further improve lighting are underway, with due regard to the ecological sensitivity of the morphological ridge.
