Kajiri Teej: Tradition, Fasting and Wishes for Husbands' Longevity

Kajiri Teej, a festival rooted in the cultural fabric of eastern Uttar Pradesh, was celebrated on 31 August with fervent prayers for marital bliss. Women performed a pre‑festival raatjaga, sharing sweet treats and reciting age‑old folk songs that celebrate agrarian life.

The core of the day involves a meticulous solah shringar ceremony followed by a strict fast, symbolising hopes for a spouse’s long and healthy life. Cultural advocates described the event as a bridge linking ancestral rites with contemporary societal values.

Besides marital blessings, participants also invoked the benevolence of Lord Ganesha, linking the Teej fast to the broader Ganesh Chaturthi observances that seek prosperity and child welfare.
