July 2026 Sees Record‑High Asset Base of ₹85.76 Lakh Cr in Mutual Funds
July 2026 marked a watershed moment for India's mutual fund sector as total assets under management climbed to ₹85.76 lakh crore, according to the latest AMFI data. The surge was powered by a net inflow of ₹2.35 lakh crore across all schemes.
Debt‑focused schemes captured the lion's share of new money, with ₹1.88 lakh crore flowing in. Their stability and predictable yields continue to attract a broad spectrum of investors seeking lower risk.
Equity‑oriented funds still drew considerable interest, absorbing ₹24,697 crore of fresh capital. This level of participation underscores a sustained confidence in long‑term equity market prospects.
Open‑ended funds led the industry with a net addition of ₹2,36,595 crore, boosting their collective AUM to ₹85.59 lakh crore.
Among equity categories, small‑cap funds were the standout, gathering ₹7,767.50 crore, while mid‑cap and flexi‑cap funds secured ₹6,192.31 crore and ₹4,709.08 crore respectively.
Conversely, large‑cap funds saw a net redemption of ₹1,321.69 crore, and ELSS and dividend‑yield funds also recorded modest outflows.
Hybrid schemes added ₹11,490.56 crore, led by arbitrage funds (₹6,502.44 crore) and multi‑asset allocation funds (₹3,753.38 crore).
Exchange‑traded funds (ETFs) attracted ₹9,512.05 crore, with gold ETFs and index funds each pulling in over ₹1.5 lakh crore.
Liquid funds remained the most popular debt instrument, receiving ₹1,19,065.85 crore. Overnight and money‑market funds together added more than ₹61,000 crore, reflecting vigorous short‑term investment activity by institutions.
The sector’s portfolio count rose to 28.09 crore by 31 July, indicating an expanding participation of retail investors in the mutual fund ecosystem.
