Judicial Panel Sets July 28 Hearing on Gymkhana Club’s Legal Challenge
A single bench of the Delhi High Court, led by Justice Avinash Zhingan, scheduled a July 28 hearing to consider the merits of petitions filed against the Union Government’s eviction drive at the Delhi Gymkhana Club. The club’s member Vijay Khurana and the Staff Welfare Association have approached the court to stop the enforcement of a ‘show cause’ notice that demands they vacate the 1930s‑era clubhouse.
The Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta, sought additional time to prepare a response, noting that the applications were delivered to his office only a day earlier. The centre’s Additional Solicitor General, Chetan Sharma, also participated in the virtual proceedings.
The court previously declined to grant interim relief to the club and rejected a request to stay the centre’s communication, emphasizing that any action must comply with legal procedures and prior notice.
