Justice Sanjay K. Agrawal, who is slated for a transfer to the Rajasthan High Court, has built a distinguished legal career spanning more than three decades. Born on 15 July 1965 in Ratnapur, Bilaspur, he completed his early education in his native town before earning a B.Sc. and LL.B. from Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur, and an LL.M. from Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur.

He entered the legal profession on 3 January 1989, practising in Bilaspur District Court, the Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur, and later at the Chhattisgarh High Court. His practice focused on civil and constitutional law, and he represented a long list of institutions, ranging from the Chhattisgarh State Government and its various corporations to national bodies such as the BCCI, State Bank of India, and major oil and steel companies.

Justice Agrawal’s contributions extend to academia and legal publishing. He has served as an ex‑officio member of the Executive Council of the Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur, sat on the Indian Law Reports Committee (Chhattisgarh series), and contributed to the editorial board of Chhattisgarh Law Judgments. He also acted as a mediator under the CPC Alternative Dispute Resolution and Mediation Rules, 2006.

His public service includes being Deputy Advocate General of Chhattisgarh from 1 March 2002 to 29 February 2004, followed by appointment as Advocate General on 25 June 2012. He was elevated to the bench as an Additional Judge on 16 September 2013 and took oath as a permanent judge on 8 March 2016. The Supreme Court collegium’s recent recommendation will see him move to Rajasthan after a short leave ending on 5 September.
