JPSC Faces Turbulence as Three Commissioners Quit During CID Inquiry

Ranchi, August 9 – Three senior members of the Jharkhand State Public Service Commission have resigned, handing their letters to Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar amidst a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probe into alleged examination irregularities.

The departing officials—Ajita Bhatta Charya, Anima Hansda and Jamal Ahmad—have not disclosed the motives behind their decisions. Their resignations arrive as CID prepares to question each commissioner individually: Bhatta Charya on Monday, Hansda on Tuesday, and Ahmad on Wednesday. Additional sessions may be scheduled based on the findings.

The commission’s credibility has been under attack following reports of misconduct in recent competitive exams. Candidate collectives have staged demonstrations demanding comprehensive and unbiased scrutiny of the recruitment process.

Earlier rounds of CID interviews included former commission chairperson L. Khiyangte, who faced a four‑stage interrogation covering various aspects of the exam framework and commission‑level choices. So far, the investigation has resulted in the arrest of four exam takers and three alleged facilitators. Authorities hint that further arrests could follow as more evidence is gathered.
